Day 11 - Rest Day in Eureka! (Team)

No rest for the weary… I awoke at sunrise, just like every other day on this trip, so I decided to catch up on blog posts while Christi continued to snooze. By the time I was ready to post, Christi was awake and did some blog posts of her own. After a couple more hours of being lazy in the hotel we decided to head out and see the “sights.” First on the list was the Victorian Carson mansion, it was pretty, but also a private club so we couldn’t go inside, and we settled for a couple pictures from outside the gates.

We continued strolling through old town, on the lookout for a bar or cafe to stop at, grab a drink, and use the restrooms… this proved to be a Herculean task. Through all of downtown there was only one cafe open, and it was packed! I looked at google maps and identified a couple restaurants/bars that “should” be open, so we walked toward an Irish bar on the end of town. When we got there the sign said it wouldn’t be open for another 15 minutes, so we kept strolling towards the waterfront area to kill some time. We passed two more restaurants that Google said were open, but were clearly not. When we came back to the Irish bar about 20 minutes later the doors were still locked, and Christi was now visibly doing the potty dance. 😂

With no luck at the Irish bar we decided to hike over to Lost Coast brewing where we had planned to have lunch, according to google it should have been open… It was still boarded up due to Covid. 😩 We were now approaching dangerous bladder territory for Christi and we just started looking for anything open that might have a bathroom. What we found was a bar called AA. It looked closed, but we decided to give the door a tug just in case, and alas, we found a nice little bar with what appeared to be the regular brunch crowd. Yippee! We had a couple drinks and some tasty fried food then decided to go back and check on the Irish bar, it was now open! We had a drink there and then started making our way back to the hotel, today was supposed to be a rest day, and we’d already done a ton of walking. We spent the rest of the evening watching movies and eating leftover pizza. Hooray for rest days, but Eureka was not as fun as I’d hoped it would be.

-Cheers!

  1. Ha! A bar called “AA”. Christi seriously needs to learn how to pee behind a dumpster.
