Day 6 - Here Comes the Sun! (Brandon)

So many incredible views once we could actually see the ocean

One more foggy morning and we were out of camp right on time at 8am. We were greeted by Seven Devils road, and it lived up to its name! It was a series of steep climbs and descents, I’m guessing there were at least seven of them, but I lost count. Once we made it to the top of the last hill we stopped for second breakfast, it was some delicious leftover pizza.😋 While there, I happened to get a pocket dial from my mother, I called her back and gave her a recap of events not covered in the blog, and confirmed that I was still alive.

After the Seven Devils was a steep descent followed by rolling hills the remainder of the route to our planned lunch/ice cream stop in Bandon. About 3 miles out from town, while I was daydreaming of the ice cream I would soon devour, I got another flat. This time it was a small-really sharp-rock that did the trick. Thirty minutes later we were back on the road and rolling full steam ahead for Bandon.

Looks like a thorn, but it was a small rock

We stopped at Face Rock Creamery for some lunch, cheese curds, and ice cream. It was incredible! There happened to be a cider tasting room across the parking lot called Bandon Rain, so I decided we should stop in there to work on the blog and support a local business. 😏 While we were blogging and sampling the local cider, the sun decided to make its first appearance in several days. We were ecstatic! The next several miles of riding were interrupted frequently by stops for pictures, we couldn’t help ourselves.

Christi was pretty happy to see the sun

We still had 30 miles of rolling hills ahead of us, so we had to get moving. Our progress wasn’t helped much by a strong headwind on our way into Port Orford, but after making it there, and stopping for supplies, we were back on the road towards our home for the night, Humbug Mountain State Park. Once again the blue skies and incredible views got the best of us and we made at least 5 photo stops during the remaining 6 miles of riding. We were talking today about making a photo album to include all the pictures we are taking that don’t make the cut for the blog, there are a lot of them. I’ll send a link when we get around to it.

Amazing views outside of Port Orford

With tired legs, battling a headwind, we made it into camp. It was a welcome sight after a long day of riding, but the sun and views made every pedal stroke worth it today. A beer and chili dinner later, it was bed time, we had 50 miles and some good sized hills to ride in the morning.

Cheers!
